Commemorative Souvenir Ware - 1902-1911 |
Little to no research has been done, by anyone, on dating souvenir plates, because history and heritage is seen by far too many people - as "boring or uninteresting." So more dates here are tentative than on other commemorative plates. | |

The Edwardian Age - The commemorative highlight of the Edwardian period was the two huge British coronations of Edward VII & Alexandra in 1902, and that of George V & Mary, only nine years later, in 1911. Before that most people - even in Britain - had never lived when there was one, since Queen Victoria had reigned since 1837, for 64 years... So the flood of commemorative ware for these events was awesome... and bought up madly even in Canada. Another huge event, in Canada, was the Tercentenary Celebration, in 1908, marking the founding of Quebec & Canada by Champlain in 1608. |
Plates below were often part of a complete tableware service; so platters, teapots, vegetable dishes, bowls, tureens, showing the same patterns, and often in a variety of colours, can be found. Complete services are rare to find now. For more memorabilia on the people, places, and events commemorated on these plates, use the Search engine above or Google. |
